Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil Sunday the much-awaited Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) insurance scheme at Ranchi in Jharkhand, that is being projected as the ‘world’s largest government funded healthcare programme’ targeting more than 50 crore beneficiaries.
With this launch, each and every citizen, particularly those belonging to financially vulnerable families, will  receive his/her due share of health care. Through AB-PMJAY, the government is taking healthcare protection  to a new aspirational level, an official statement here said.
The Yojana will provide a coverage up to Rs 5,00,000 per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care  hospitalisation through a network of Empanelled Health Care Providers (EHCP).
The EHCP network will provide cashless and paperless access to services for the beneficiaries at both public  and private hospitals for 1,350 procedures covering pre- and post hospitalisation, diagnostics and medicines.
Beneficiaries will be able to move across borders and access services across the country through the provider  network seamlessly.
The aim of AB-PMJAY is ambitious: more than 10.74 crore vulnerable entitled families (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) will be provided cashless and paperless access to hospital services and reduce catastrophic expenditure that has left the patient with exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses.
When fully implemented, AB-PMJAY will become the world’s largest fully government-financed health protection scheme and a step towards advancing the agenda of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Under Ayushman Bharat, 1,50,000 health and wellness centres will be created bringing health care closer to the  homes of the people.
